The course “Microbial Bioinformatics” is designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the theoretical foundations and practical applications of bioinformatics in the study of microorganisms. The discipline focuses on the principles and methods of microbial genome sequencing, assembly, annotation, and comparative analysis, as well as on advanced approaches such as metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics, and single-cell genomics. Special attention is given to phylogenomics, evolutionary and functional analysis of microbial communities, and reconstruction of metabolic pathways.
Through lectures, practical classes, and independent study, students will acquire knowledge of modern bioinformatics tools and databases used for microbial genome analysis, as well as gain experience in applying these methods to evolutionary, ecological, and biotechnological research. The course emphasizes the integration of computational approaches with microbiology and biotechnology to address current challenges in microbial diversity assessment, metabolic engineering, and the development of microbial producers for industrial and biomedical applications.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to independently perform sequence analysis, conduct phylogenetic and comparative genomic studies, analyze transcriptome and proteome datasets, reconstruct metabolic pathways, and apply microbial bioinformatics methods to solve practical problems in biotechnology.
